Collectively, the West Nottinghamshire College Group holds a string of awards and accolades that demonstrates the level of excellence provided across all companies and commercial interests.

We are the only college in Nottinghamshire to have been awarded Beacon status. This was awarded in recognition of our innovation and excellence in teaching and learning.

The college was also proud to gain the highly sought-after Investors in People Gold standard and its associated Health and Wellbeing Good Practice Award – both at the first attempt. As one of only 6% of employers nationally to hold the Gold Standard, we are not only an exceptional training provider but a fantastic employer too.

Our information, advice and guidance team scooped the Matrix national quality standard for the advice offered to learners, and we have also been awarded the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents silver award for our commitment to health and safety.

Meanwhile, our multiple award-winning principal and chief executive, Asha Khemka, was recognised for her services to Further Education with an OBE in the 2009 New Year’s Honours List and a DBE in the 2014 Honour’s List – making her the first Indian-born in living memory to receive a Damehood.

Later that year, Dame Asha became the inaugural recipient of the Dadabhai Naoroji Award for Education and just weeks later she was named Woman of the Year at the GG2 Leadership Awards for her outstanding work and commitment to providing a fair education for all.

We were delighted when our state-of-the-art Lifestyle Academy building scooped an award in the infrastructure category at the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) East Midlands Awards 2014 for its contribution to the area.

And bksb – the wholly-owned college subsidiary and the UK’s number one solution for Functional Skills and GCSE online assessments – was selected as a finalist in the internationally-renowned Bett Awards. The outstanding bksb solution was also chosen as an Education Resources Awards finalist for 2015 by The British Educational Suppliers Association (BESA) in the ‘Whole Curriculum Resource (including ICT)’ category.

In 2015 the college group launched two exciting new ventures in India to support the nation’s ambitious skills agenda. As part of its continued growth and expansion, bksb opened a head office and training centre in Chandigarh while also launching its Skills Anytime products to the Indian market. Meanwhile, the college announced a partnership with the Indian-based Cordia Group of Educational Institutes to create a vocational training centre in the rural village of Sanghol.

But what makes us proudest are the amazing achievements of our students and apprentices, who do fantastic things each and every day! Here are just some of their successes…
