Two theatres collaborate

Performing arts students at Vision West Nottinghamshire College are joining forces with Education @ The Palace to present a new play.

Swing by Cathy Grindrod comes to Create Theatre

As part of the new writing programme, Write Track, at Mansfield Palace Theatre, Swing by Cathy Grindrod was selected for full production and will be staged at the College’s Create Theatre on Derby Road, Mansfield.

The play, which will be performed on Thursday 16 and Friday 17 April, focuses on four teenagers who find themselves forced into attending an arts project at a community centre as part of rehabilitation for crimes they have committed.

All is not what it seems though. What is Josh’s secret? Why is Kelly so angry? What is Beth fighting for? Who is the real Mark? Will they find what they are looking for or end up back where they started?

This is the second year of partnership between the Palace and the college, following the highly-successful production of Workshy by Andy Dobb last year.

The director, Christopher Neil said: “This is a great opportunity for the students to work on new writing in a full-time professional rehearsal situation and equally provide an opportunity for a local writer to have their work produced.  It’s a really exciting challenge bringing this play to fruition.”

The cast of six students are all studying the BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Performing Arts at the college.

The play starts at 7.30pm on both days and tickets cost £6 which can be purchased from Mansfield Palace Theatre Box Office by calling 01623 633133, www.mansfield.gov.uk/palacetheatre or by visiting www.createtheatre.co.uk or by calling 01623 413363.
