A taste of the highlands at college cafe

Scottish cuisine is on offer at West Nottinghamshire College’s BAY6 Centre and coffee bar next week.

The centre, on Woodhouse Road, Mansfield, is preparing a selection of traditional Scottish dishes from 30 November to 3 December and will include students serving coffee to local Age Concern group on Tuesday morning.

Menu options include homemade Scotch broth, which is a traditional pearl barley soup with root vegetables, for just £1.50.  Diners can also sample Bridie pie served with gravy.  This is a Scottish version of a Cornish pasty, served with a potato and swede patty, for only £3.00.

For dessert, apple butterscotch pie in a butterscotch sauce topped with meringue is on offer for just £1.

This is another opportunity for customers to sample themed meals laid on at the centre, which provides a practical training and working environment for students with learning difficulties or disabilities.

Food will be available from 11.30am to 2pm, with tea, coffee, cakes and sandwiches also served during these times.

People can just turn up although parties of eight or more are advised to book a table for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday on 01623 413027.

The BAY6 centre is open to the public for hot and cold refreshments.
