VE Day celebrations at college café

Pensioners are being taken back in time next week to celebrate VE Day, thanks to local students.

Rations it won’t be though, when members of Mansfield Age Concern visits West Nottinghamshire College’s BAY6 coffee bar and café to sample a lunchtime menu with a 1940s twist.

The group, who are regular visitors to the centre on Woodhouse Road, Mansfield, will be enjoying a number of dishes on Thursday (12 May) including Woolton pie – named after Frederick Marquis, 1st Lord Woolton, who became Minister of Food in 1940 – which was a popular nutritional dish during the food shortages of the second World War.

Throughout the week members of the public can enjoy other items on the menu such as root vegetable soup for £1.50, corned beef hash for £2 and treacle tart for 50p.

Food will be available from 10.00am to 2pm, with tea, coffee, cakes and sandwiches also served during these times at the venue in Woodhouse Road, Mansfield.

People can just turn up although parties of eight or more are advised to book a table on 01623 413027.

BAY6 is open to the public for hot and cold refreshments and provides a practical training and working environment for students with learning difficulties or disabilities.
