James celebrates election success

The president of West Nottinghamshire College’s Students’ Union is celebrating after being elected into the high-profile role for a second successive year.

James Stafford secured 53% of the votes in the presidential election, which means he will continue to represent the student body for the 2011/12 academic year, starting in September.

The 21-year-old, who studied the BTEC Diploma in Public Services at the college before taking over the Students’ Union presidency last September, has already enjoyed a successful year in the post.

This included leading a campaign for better bus services for students and organising a petition against the Government’s scrapping of the Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA), which was presented to Mansfield MP, Sir Alan Meale.

James said: “I’m really pleased to be re-elected as president for another academic year.  I’d like to thank all the students who voted for me and for their support throughout my election campaign.

“I’m looking forward to introducing new clubs and societies to the college and I have a number of events and activities planned for what looks set to be another exciting year ahead for the Students’ Union.

“We’re looking forward to the team moving to a new part of the college, which is going to be a fresh and funky area for students to relax in when not studying.”
