Calling aspiring business tycoons

Budding entrepreneurs will be getting advice from a businessman whose worldwide company began life in his spare bedroom.

Malcolm Hall, managing director of Mansfield-based Hall-Fast Industrial Supplies, will be addressing members of West Nottinghamshire College’s Vision Entrepreneur programme on Tuesday (11 December) and letting them into the secrets of his success.

The programme, which was officially launched in November by television star Karren Brady, is giving the job-creators of tomorrow a final chance to register for the session in December.

Vision Entrepreneur is designed to coach those with business ideas of their own and to offer tips from industry experts at its monthly advice sessions.  Those whose ideas have the most potential will receive one-to-one mentoring and the backing to develop their business plans further.

This month’s session will see Malcolm Hall speaking to members about his award-winning business which supplies industrial equipment to both local and global businesses.

Malcolm will reveal how he achieved success with Hall-Fast which he launched in 2006 from his back bedroom, initially supplying specialist fasteners into the UK automotive industry.  After just one year his business was turning over £550,000 and now exports products to over 75 countries.

Malcolm said: “I hope that by talking about my past career and the ups and downs I’ve been through to establish a successful business it will inspire young people.

“Gaining the right qualifications is certainly important, however, learning life skills and taking part in initiatives like Vision Entrepreneur also helps as they instil the need to have a clear focus and a determined attitude to succeed."

At Tuesday’s event, current members of Vision Entrepreneur will be given details of how to develop their business plan which will be scrutinised by a panel of local entrepreneurs in February before a shortlist of successful applicants is agreed.

Individuals who are interested in registering to be a member of Vision Entrepreneur should contact Rachel Bates on 01623 627191 ext 8019 or email Rachel.bates@wnc.ac.uk
