Mansfield restaurant upholds its quality flags

West Nottinghamshire College’s fine dining restaurant, Refined, is celebrating being Mansfield’s number one restaurant on TripAdvisor and upholding a prestigious national catering rosette.

Proud catering and hospitality staff and students when Refined was first awarded the AA Rosette

With more than 180 excellent reviews on TripAdvisor, Refined has secured the number one spot out of 148 restaurants in Mansfield.

Guests have commented on the online travel and restaurant forum about “top quality food”, “serving staff are friendly and professional” and “great value for money”.

In addition to the plaudits on TripAdvisor, which can be found at https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Restaurant_Review-g504069-d4297149-Reviews-Refined-Mansfield_Nottinghamshire_England.html the restaurant, based at the college’s Derby Road campus, has also retained another prestigious accolade.

Last March, inspectors awarded the restaurant with the official AA College Restaurant Rosette, which is designed to reflect current industry trends within realistic working environments.

Following a return visit by inspectors, the rosette has once again been awarded, which reflects the restaurant’s care and attention to detail with food preparation and the use of good quality ingredients. The award also acknowledges that it is achieving standards which stand out in the local area and within the currently benchmarked colleges.

As part of the report drawn up by the AA inspector, positive feedback included:

  • Team members particularly Brandon and Chloe were interactive with guests with no awkwardness and were very genuine.
  • The food order was taken promptly; a wine recommended to compliment the meal when the inspector asked and it was delivered in a timely manner.
  • All cutlery had been polished and stemware sparkled and room well-lit for daytime.
  • An area of outstanding quality noted was the modern styling and all matching décor, napkins and logo.

The inspector also positively appraised the three-course meal which was black pudding fritter, apple sauce and mustard dressing with a poached egg for the starter, chicken Kiev, saute potatoes and green vegetables with a white wine sauce for the main course, followed by egg custard and nutmeg syrup and prunes for dessert.

Curriculum manager for the lifestyle academy, Helen Wilcockson, said: “I’m so very proud of all our staff and students for making Refined the success it is today and for keeping up the wonderful standards and quality that people are clearly enjoying.

“Thank you also to all our valued clients for choosing us as their number one restaurant in the area.

“We always strive to give our customers a great dining experience, showcasing the very best talents that our students are honing and the best food we can bring each season.”

Refined fine dining restaurant is open Wednesday, Thursday and Friday lunchtimes and Wednesday evening is themed evenings, with Thursday evenings playing host to the Refined dining experience.
