A stepping-stone for the home-schooled
A new course is being launched at West Nottinghamshire College, designed especially for young people who are home-schooled, wishing to take the next steps into Further Education.
Parents of homeschooled children will be able to get more advice about the new course on 17 May
The Home Educated 14-16 Specialist course will provide small class sizes on a part-time basis for those who have been home schooled and wish to build their confidence, vocational skills and their employability and interpersonal skills.
Students will study maths, English and IT, two days per week as well as a vocational subject one day per week. Subjects to choose from include construction crafts, motor vehicle, hair and beauty or care occupations.
Students must have been home-schooled since at least September 2017 to enrol onto the new course.

Studies show that up to 30,000 children were home schooled in 2016/17 across the UK and 618 of these were based in Nottinghamshire. This was a 66% increase since 2013.
Foundation studies transition co-ordinator Diana Fennell said: “This new course will provide a safe and secure environment for young people who haven’t experienced an educational environment for a long time, in the lead up to them wishing to pursue their studies at college post-16.
“We want this to be the perfect stepping-stone so that home schooled individuals can grow their confidence and discover new skills in the lead-up to making bigger decisions about college studies.”
