New college apprenticeship moves leaders up

West Nottinghamshire College is helping to create managers of the future for the UK’s leading motor dealer franchise with a new professional diploma.

Pendragon staff at the Evans Halshaw Car Store in Coventry are keen to begin their new course

Twenty-four members of staff from Pendragon PLC have enrolled on to the Level 5 Management and Leadership Diploma through the college to develop their current managerial skills.

The first cohort to enrol this month were twelve staff at the Pendragon Academy on Southwell Road in Mansfield. A further dozen staff who are employed at the Evans Halshaw Car Store in Coventry have also enrolled and will begin their programme of studies in the coming weeks.

The college has tailored the programme to incorporate key aspects of management for both groups, which includes principles of operational leadership and management in an organisational context, leading individuals and teams to achieve success, managing finance and managing change as well as stakeholder relationships.

The two-year-long course will provide students with eight structured workshops, which will be held at the Pendragon Academy in Mansfield and individuals will benefit from monthly tutorials with their delivery specialists.

Head of learning and development at Pendragon, Neil Atkin, said: “The management apprenticeship is an exciting new development journey which we’re delighted to provide to our staff.

“Investment in our staff is extremely important to us, and offering highly-relevant and practical qualifications to employees will help them to be successful in both their current roles and future careers within the group.

“The programme also incorporates the Chartered Institute of Management (CIM) Diploma in Management and Leadership which offers a nationally-recognised qualification, demonstrating the importance we place on continuous professional and personal development.”

The course, which is affiliated by the CIM, is the third in a series of training programmes which the college is offering Pendragon PLC. Earlier this year the Level 3 Team Leading and Supervisor Apprenticeship began at the Mansfield academy for twelve team leaders.

And in 2016 the college launched the ‘Pendragon Passport’ with the company, which has seen over 16 vehicle technicians across the UK group gain new skills with the Level 2 Diploma in Light Vehicle and Maintenance Report Principals.
