Undergraduates to showcase projects to employers

Up to one-hundred higher education students at West Nottinghamshire College are preparing to showcase their final year projects to local employers at an event celebrating their success and hard work.

The Employer Showcase’ takes place at the Derby Road campus, Mansfield, on Tuesday (10 May) from 12-3pm for computing, sport and public services students and from 5-8pm for business management and public sector administration students.

The students, who are all on foundation degree programmes, will be engaging with representatives from major employers such as Center Parcs, Newark and Sherwood District Council and Glenair UK Ltd to discuss their projects in detail and request professional feedback.

It is the second time the college has staged the event, following the success of last year's inaugral showcase.

One of its aims is to help students develop the employability skills needed in today’s challenging and competitive job market.

HE development manager, Dani MacKinnon, said: “This is a wonderful opportunity for learners to showcase their projects to employers and demonstrate what they've learned on their higher education programmes.  It also give them a chance to raise awareness of what the college provides, in terms of university-level qualifications and work-based opportunities.

“We’ll be welcoming feedback from employers on the standards achieved by our undergraduates and their employability potential.  It will be a great networking opportunity for students as well as a platform to develop their skills and have confidence in engaging with a professional audience.”

Prospective students are welcome to attend to learn more about the college's higher education programmes.

Meanwhile, employers wishing to attend and meet the students should contact Dani MacKinnon on 01623 627191 ext. 8697or email danielle.mackinnon@wnc.ac.uk
