Unbeaten February for Basketball Academy

Worcester Wolves 69 – WNC Mansfield Giants 86

With just two games remaining in the regular season WNC Mansfield Giants stayed in the hunt for a top two finish, which would earn them a place in the post season play-offs, with a hard fought victory over Worcester Wolves. It completed a wonderful February for WNC, as they managed to go unbeaten throughout the month, winning all four games.

Worcester made life hard on Saturday though. In fact, in a tight first half there were 8 lead exchanges as both teams struggled to take control. At the interval WNC had a slight 41-37 advantage. However, in the third period the Wolves came out howling with a 15-3 burst that put them ahead by eight, at the time the largest lead of the game. After a Coach Storer time out, WNC regrouped to trail 55-54 by the end of the period.

The final stanza belonged to the Giants as they came out firing. Will Mott and Kurt Davy both connected with deep three point shots as the Giants opened up a healthy lead. In the end, the 69-86 triumph indicated a comfortable win - but it hadn’t been quite so relaxing throughout.

Next up are City of Birmingham at home on Saturday. Coach Matt Shaw commented “It won’t be an easy game for us. They are certainly the most improved team in the league! In February they lost to league leaders Nottingham by 5 and by 1 to Shropshire. They also won their other two games. We will certainly have to be on top of our game to get the win.”
