College calls in the professionals

A professional chef and beauty therapist have joined the ranks at West Nottinghamshire College’s new restaurant, spa and salons.

Chef Mick Sindall and senior beauty therapist Sharon Hernandez are supporting the college’s new commercial ventures, working in its Refined fine dining restaurant and Revive salons and spa respectively.

Mick, who studied catering at the college between 1989 and 1991, brings a wealth of professional experience to the restaurant, having worked in London at La Gavroche for Michel Roux and at The Criterion for Marco Pierre-White.

Following his return to Mansfield he became head chef and business partner at the town’s Number 4 Wood Street restaurant and now combines his college duties with working as a chef at The Junction pub in Sutton-in-Ashfield.

Mick has been recruited to co-ordinate the new Sunday lunchtime service at Refined, working alongside students in the kitchens which prepares them for industry.

He said: “It’s great coming back to West Notts and I’m really impressed with the new restaurant.  The students have the best of everything in the kitchens, which most top restaurants would be envious of.

“I’m looking forward to passing on my knowledge to the learners and giving something back; helping them progress in the industry and enjoy the art of cookery.”

Meanwhile Sharon, who previously worked as a beauty therapy trainer at the Carlton Institute, Derby, brings 16 years of holistic experience to the new spa and salons. Having owned her own business, Sharon progressed into teaching nails, beauty and holistic therapies at NVQ 3 level.

She said: “Revive is a really impressive facility that matches anywhere I’ve worked previously. The students are privileged to train in such a high-calibre facility that provides the realistic working environment needed to become fully-qualified, professional therapists.

“I’m available as a senior therapist for clients to book treatments such as Shellac nails, advanced massage, HD brows, lash extensions and intimate waxing and I’m also on hand to provide additional advice to our trainee therapists.”

Sharon is available for treatments at the spa Thursdays to Sundays.

Sunday lunches at Refined cost £11.50 for two courses and £15 for three courses.  To book a table call 01623 413629.  Spa sessions and beauty treatments can be booked by calling 01623 413615.
