Aiming high after A Levels

A Level students at West Nottinghamshire College have returned from an aspirational visit to Oxford University.

A Level students visited Oxford University

The group of 14 students, who are studying on their first year in a range of A Levels, visited Magdalen College and St Edmund Hall College last week (12 June) as part of an initiative to encourage them to apply to the top universities.

The college has established links with Magdalen College’s communications officer Dr Janette Gilbert who visited them in February when she spoke to them about applying to Oxford and Cambridge after completing their A Levels.

During their tour of Magdalen College and St Edmund Hall the students were able to see the historical buildings and campus as well as see the deer park.

They also received a tutorial session on writing personal statements for university applications and took part in a workshop to support them through future university interviews.

Academic studies curriculum manager Stuart Booker said: “Our students gained a lot of important information about applying for and studying at Oxford, and it has given them greater confidence to apply. They were excellent ambassadors for West Nottinghamshire College throughout their visit”.

“The outreach officers at Magdalen and St Edmund Hall were both impressed by our students and encouraged them to consider studying at Oxford.”
