The School of Creative, Lifestyle and Digital Industries hosts a wide range of vocational programmes from Entry Level to University Level qualifications. As a result, the School has a wide range of specialist vocational equipment and resources including three drama studio’s with lighting rigs and the 150 seat Create Theatre, which also runs as a commercial venue offering a range of professional productions from comedy to children’s theatre to traditional drama alongside conference style events. Students within the department tour regularly to local theatre venues, schools and community centres.
As the Theatre Technician you will work closely with the curriculum delivery team and the Theatre Coordinator to support both programmes of study and the commercial operation of the Create Theatre. You will be responsible for the effective technical support of the performing arts area both on and off site and the operation of the performing arts facilities including the Create Theatre. Where appropriate, you will be expected to stage manage and or technically operate equipment (lighting and sound) for performances, supporting both the teaching teams and the commercial operation of the Theatre. In essence you will ensure the effective and efficient operation of performances and of performance equipment and facilities.
You will be required to assist the teaching teams in preparation of equipment, areas and workshops.
You will be responsible for the maintenance, distribution and storage of consumables, tools and equipment related to the vocational area. You will manage an effective and efficient storage system, maintain specialist tools and equipment and maintain health and safety records.
You will support delivery teams and student groups by setting up a variety of resources and teaching aids and you will manage the safe operation of specialist facilities and ensure all resources, facilities and equipment comply with Health and Safety regulation. You will also ensure all specialist areas and facilities are kept clean and tidy and comply with Health and Safety regulations.
You will ensure all equipment is maintained and ready for use and be required to undertake essential minor maintenance tasks.
You will be responsible for updating health and safety documentation and follow health and safety guidance.
